Language of Astrology – Symbols of the Signs and Planets

The Symbols Used in an Astrology Chart!

Click on the image to see a chart that references the Language of Astrology. An astrological chart is composed of Signs, Planets and Houses.  There are specific symbols or glyph’s that are connected to signs and planets.

There is a natural rulership within Astrology and each sign has a symbol, an element (fire, earth, air and water), a quality (cardinal, fixed and mutable), a ruling planet, each planet has a symbol and a ruling house number (along with house type; angular, succedent and cadent).  Some signs have dual ruling planets (planet in brackets on image) based on ancient astrology, and prior to the identification of the outer planets (Uranus, Neptune & Pluto).

There are also masculine (Yang) signs and Feminine (Yin) signs.

Additionally, there is a symbol for the North and South Node as well as the four major asteroids at the bottom of the image. Chiron, which is also an asteroid is given rulership under Virgo as a secondary ruler.

There are additional images that are used in astrology to describe the Aspects.  Those images can be found in Aspect Symbols in Astrology blog post!
